What We Do
Nebraska Family Support Network (NFSN) is a family run organization promoting awareness of children’s mental health issues and ensuring that parents/youth have a voice in the systems that impact them. We are unique in that our primary qualification for service provision is our lived experience.
We started as a grassroots gathering of parents who joined together around the recognition that families with children struggling with emotional/mental/behavioral health issues were being excluded from meaningfully participating in their child’s treatment or plan of care.
All leadership and direct service staff have supported a child in one or more of Nebraska’s child/family service systems. In addition to lived experience, staff are well trained in a range of topics related to helping families/youth and are either Nationally or State Certified as Peer Support Providers.
Interesting Info
Last year NFSN provided direct support to 431 families, participated in 144 diversion hearings to support parents/youth and served 87 youth in youth workshops.
The National Survey of Children's Health estimates that 39,080 children in Nebraska have mental or behavioral health conditions needing treatment.
Our goal is to inspire parents and youth to become knowledgeable about their own potential and options.
