What We Do

Midwest Heart Connection provides support for children and adults with a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), as well as their parents, families and friends – including personal communication, encouragement and assistance; access to CHD community; dissemination of educational materials and information on CHD; and distribution of surgery day care kits.

We provide fun activities for CHD kids and their families throughout the year. One of our biggest activity is to help underwrite half of the cost to send 30-40 kids to a summer camp at Camp Kitaki.

We raise awareness of CHD by providing the general public with knowledge of the disease and information regarding the occurrence, detection and treatment of CHD; and to encourage the community to be more aware of the needs of those with CHD.

We also raise funds for pediatric cardiology research, and educational and treatment resources, so that more children with heart defects will survive, live longer, and lead an improved quality of life.

Interesting Info

Nearly 1 in 100 children are born with a congenital heart defect.
We hope to fund more activities, including ones for teenagers as the survival rate has increased significantly over the years.
