What We Do

FAMILY, Inc. engages and educates our community, inspiring a healthy future through literacy, family, and public health services. FAMILY, Inc. envisions a future with a resilient community built on strong partnerships and trust with equitable opportunities to thrive. It is FAMILY’s primary goal to assist parents in becoming their child’s first and most influential teacher through education, empowerment, and wellness. With offices located in Council Bluffs and Walnut, Iowa the agency serves both urban and rural communities. Raise Me to Read, a program of FAMILY, is a community based campaign that supports literacy and early learning for every child across Pottawattamie County, Iowa. The initiative emphasizes the critical focus areas of school readiness, school attendance and summer learning. Our three goals are to engage and educate the community on the importance of reading and early childhood literacy; to have students enter kindergarten ready to learn; and to have all students read proficiently by third grade. This work involves the health industry, business and faith communities, non-profit sector, governmental entities, schools, early childhood providers and most importantly, parents and caregivers of our children.
