Neighborhood Leadership Academy: Inner Suburbs

NLA is a day-long training session that develops and equips community members with strategies they need to organize neighborhoods and volunteer-led groups.

NLA encourages attendees to take on leadership roles in their neighborhoods and provides the skills necessary to develop and execute collaborative projects where they live. The training is geographically based to empower residents’ interests in each community.

This year’s NLA focuses on the inner suburbs.

Attendees will learn:

- The difference between lone wolf organizing and community organizing
- How to develop a program, project, or initiative in your neighborhood and grow your capacity
- What affordable housing is and how land use and public policy affect your neighborhood
- How to advocate for affordable housing.
- What a Block Talk is and its underlying principles
- How to assess the walkability and safety of your neighborhood’s streets
