MLK Jr. Day of Service 2022

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a defining moment each year when Americans across the country step up to make our communities more equitable and take action to build the Beloved Community of Dr. King’s dream. While Dr. King believed the Beloved Community was possible, he acknowledged and fought for systemic change. His example is our call to action.

Observed each year on the third Monday in January, MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. - From

MLK Jr. Day of Service Volunteer Opportunities at Habitat for Humanity of Omaha:

ReStore West:
Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks like stocking shelves, customer service, unloading/loading donation trucks, general cleaning, and so much more! Each of these tasks is crucial for the success of Habitat ReStore, helping to build more Habitat homes in Omaha.

Construction/Build Wall Panel Assembly:
Help our construction team build wall panels for new homes! This indoor process make framing on the home site very efficient and reduces overall waste!

No experience or special skills are required – we’ll provide any training (and tools) you may need for your volunteer day!

ReStore: Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. All volunteers 15 years of age or younger must have a parent or guardian present.

Construction/Build: Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers between 16 and 18 years of age will have restricted use of tools and other equipment.

All volunteers under the age of 19 must have a parent or guardian sign the electronic waiver when they create their volunteer account.



In response to COVID-19 we have implemented new safety measures at our volunteer sites. All staff, volunteers, donors and customers are required to wear masks if they are not vaccinated. Those who have been vaccinated have the option to not wear a mask. We are using the honor system in regards to mask wearing on our volunteer sites. Increased sanitation measures of ReStore merchandise are being applied. All staff and volunteers are required to adhere to COVID-19 specific questions and increased personal sanitation.
