Medicaid Covers Us: Medicaid and Health Equity: 100 Years After the Tulsa Race Massacre

Join the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) for the third installment of the "Medicaid Covers Us" Health Equity and Medicaid series: Medicaid and Health Equity: 100 Years After the Tulsa Race Massacre event.

On July 1st, Medicaid will be expanded in Oklahoma, providing over 117,000 people with critical access to health insurance coverage. This change will be taking place one month following the centennial of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The webinar will touch on the intersection between racial violence, systemic racism, health disparities, and the importance of access to affordable health care coverage.

The webinar will start with a brief history of the Tulsa Race Massacre with a tour of current day North Tulsa, including Black Wall Street and Greenwood. This will be followed by a panel discussion focused on the importance of Medicaid Expansion as one tool in the toolbox that can be utilized to help address longstanding disparities caused by the massacre that left a once thriving Black community with little to no resources. The speakers will include Kristi Williams, Co-Owner of the Black Wall Street Tour; Dr. Jabraan Pasha, MD, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine; Councilwoman Vanessa Hall-Harper, Tulsa City Council District 1; and Lance Barbour, ACS CAN Sr. State and Local Campaigns Manager.
