Kitchen volunteer
Duties may include but not limited to:
• Accept and adhere to the policies of the senior center.
• Report to shift on time. Notify manager of any absence.
• Record hours on the volunteer log sheet.
• Assist with the daily kitchen operation to include: receiving food, checking temperatures upon arrival and just prior to serving, recording food temperatures, and placing food in the appropriate holding equipment.
• Do some minor food preparation: cooking vegetables, heating precooked meat products, cooking frozen potato products.
• Assist during meal service, ensure proper food portion, food handling practices, and plate presentation.
• Make coffee, tea, and other beverages; assist with washing and sanitizing tables before and after meal service.
• Responsible for operating the dishwasher to wash and sanitize the dishes and silverware used for the meal. Properly store clean dishes after meal service. Clean steam tables, refrigerator, stove, and counters and keep kitchen in a clean and orderly condition.
• Order, receive, and place in proper storage area all supplies from caterer to be used with the meal. Keep manager informed of any other supplies needed.
• Responsible for following proper food handling procedures in all areas, good hand washing techniques, and good personal hygiene at all times.
• Perform other duties as requested.
• Attend volunteer meetings as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Ability to follow directions.
Willingness to learn sanitary food handling practices.
Ability to adapt to various work environment.
Ability to lift 10-15 lbs., bend, stoop, and stand on feet for periods of time.
