The Canine Companion Program is an extension of the NHS’ Behavior department. Our goal is to provide behavioral support to ALL the dogs in our care including carrying out plans to reduce the dogs’ stress and provide the dogs with a positive environment while they await their forever homes. Responsibilities: Provide positive human interactions through exercise and play Daily enrichment and training Kennel support Adoption advocacy Humane and safe animal handling according to the Nebraska Humane Society’s Standard Operating Procedures. While handling animals, must report any behavior or medical observations that could compromise the welfare of the animal. Interact with other volunteers, staff and visitors in a professional and courteous manner Volunteers Must: Walk dogs in all weather Pick up dog feces and clean up after dogs Tolerate odors of all sorts Have an e-mail address that you check on a regular basis (this is the primary way we communicate with volunteers) This is a very active volunteer experience and you can plan to be on your feet for up to 2 hours while working with the dogs. It is an individual opportunity No skills required but previous experience with animals is a plus Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
