MLK Day 2022

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 17, 2022, is the 27th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy.

Each year, MLK Day, the third Monday in January, is “a day on, not a day off,” led nationally by AmeriCorps. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service and encourages volunteerism among all Americans in Dr. King's memory. With the ongoing pandemic, there are fewer in-person opportunities available in the Omaha metro for 2022, but we encourage you to take action in a way that is meaningful to you.

THE COLLECTIVE FOR HOPE
Donate and build shelving for hopeOne of The Collective for Hope's New Year's resolutions is to get organized! A critical step in the process is the donation of materials and the skilled help to build shelving in the basement of their office at 8000 Chicago Street. This project will ultimately help them sort, store and inventory our supplies for programs and special events. A staff member is available to walk the space beforehand to help the volunteer lead get dimensions and a better feel for the project.

They can take up to 10 volunteers per shift.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF OMAHA
ReStore West: Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks like stocking shelves, customer service, unloading/loading donation trucks, general cleaning, and so much more! Each of these tasks is crucial for the success of Habitat ReStore, helping to build more Habitat homes in Omaha.
Construction/Build Wall Panel Assembly: Help the construction team build wall panels for new homes! This indoor process makes framing on the home site very efficient and reduces overall waste.
